Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti re-tells the story of his Champions League past.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has looked back on his career in the Champions League as a coach as he reaches a century of matches.
Ancelotti established a dominance that he maintained, winning the trophy twice in four years at Milan.
His next objective is to ensure Chelsea forge new links with European club football’s biggest trophy.
And he has re-told the history of his biggest moments, hoping there is more to come.
One which stands out though is when Adriano Galliani slept with the 2003 trophy, conquered against Juventus at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground.
His top five moments were published by Il Corriere dello Sport.
1: “It was in Prague against Sparta. Strada had a penalty denied. It was my debut in the Champions League with Parma. We got through the preliminaries. We played a great game and should have won.”
2: “It’s the one I will never forget. The final in Manchester against Juventus. For many then I was a loser, but I reached the top of Europe with Milan. After the game no one could sleep, apart from Galliani who went to his room and slept with the tophy on his cushion.”
3: “I would want to play the Deportivo match again when we lost 4-0. We were so sure of winning after the first leg. But it was a massive blow for us.”
4: “The one I will never win again. If I play the 2004-05 Eindhoven semi-final again against PSV. It was not a win, but we lost 3-1 and went through after winning the first leg 2-0.”
5: “The one I will always remember is the 3-0 win against Manchester United at San Siro during the 2006-07 season. It was after Calciopoli and we started the preliminaries against Red Star. The game against United was the semi-final second leg after we lost the first 3-2. We also played well at Old Trafford.”
