BREAKING NEWS: Fiorentina’s Riccardo Montolivo Agrees Switch To Milan

Fiorentina’s Montolivo looks set to join the defending Italian champions…

Fiorentina look resigned to losing Ricardo Montolivo for nothing this summer with reports suggesting the midfielder has already agree to join Milan in the summer.

The Italy international has been with the Viola for seven years but since breaking off contract negotiations with the club at the end of last year, his exit from the Stadio Artemio Franchi had been expected.

The 27-year old has been linked with a host of clubs in recent months with Serie A big-guns Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma said to be interested in his services, along with German giants Bayern Munich and English Premier League champions Manchester United.

However, according to Florence-based radio station Lady Radio, Montolivo has already finalized a €2.5million-a-season, four-year deal with Milan, with an option of extending his stay at the San Siro for another year.

Last week, Montolivo confirmed he will be leaving Fiorentina at the end of the season, but denied receiving any offer from the Rossoneri.

“At the end of the season I will very likely leave Florence, albeit with great disappointment,” Montolivo said. “There has not been any offer from Milan, so I don’t know what my future will be.”

  1. Considering that is easier to find a living dinosaur in the streets of São Paulo than Allegri to change his beloved tactical system (4-3-1-2), no matter the players at his disposal, I’m curious to see at what position he is going to use Monto – Regista? Mezz’ala (sinistra/destra)?Trequartista?

And I guess Monto got a raw deal at Florence. 😛

    • Haha I suppose so 😀 Well I remember you wrote that he will probably be a replacement for Van Bommel and now I’m starting to believe in it. Considering Mark’s rumored move o PSV at the end of the season, I guess Montolivo (if arrives) will play on his position.

      • Yes. He probably will be the substitute of MvB in the starting 11. But let’s clarify something: Allegri only will use him in that position alongside a “pitbull”. Someone like Muntari, Gattuso or Flamini, for exemple.

Do not forget that Montolivo is a player like Pirlo – very similar characteristics – and Allegri sent our last metronomo out to Torino and replaced him with van Bommel. So, during the next transfer window expect Galliani to hire, or at least try to do it, someone like Sandro (Tottenham), M’Villa (Rennes) etc.

If it was up only to Berlusconi, we’ll hire dozens of players like Monto, Borja Valero, Pirlo, Iniesta etc. Players who can “hide” the ball from opponents for the entire match – he talks a lot about Barça style of playing and it’s not by chance.

Allegri is far more concerned about balance.
