Benitez, Guardiola & Mancini Head Milan Coach Shortlist

Italian giants have found Allegri’s successor, but only if they could choose one…

Milan have reportedly identified former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola as the leading candidate to replace Massimiliano Allegri, while ex-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez and Manchester City’s Roberto Mancini also feature on the shortlist.

Guardiola has also been linked with Manchester City and Manchester United after taking a sabbatical following four years of unprecedented success with Barcelona.

Milan have endured a torrid few months, with the summer departures of Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic followed by five defeats in the Rossoneri’s opening ten Serie A fixtures.

According to Goal, Milan official are unhappy with Allegri and have established a shortlist of contenders to replace the Italian, with Guardiola the most prominent name under consideration.

However, they are also reported to be looking at Benitez, who left Anfield in the summer of 2010, although the Spaniard was a resounding failure with city rivals Inter. Rafa has been out of work since his departure from the San Siro and has since relocated to Liverpool, and had been linked with a return to Anfield before the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

Mancini, meanwhile, signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City following their triumph in the Premier League last season, although his position could be under threat if the club fail to win anything this term.
