The successor to Silva… ?
Milan are keeping close tabs on Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, Il Corriere dello Sport has revealed.
The Rossoneri are still searching for a high-profile central defender to fill the gap left by the departure of Thiago Silva and they are looking at a number of players.
Italy internationals Davide Astori and Angelo Ogbonna have been under their watchful eye for quite a while, but the Italian press claims that Porto stopper Mangala has moved to the top of their wish list.
Earlier, Mangala’s representative revealed that some of Europe’s top clubs are watching his client.
“Milan, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are on his trail,” agent Fabrizio Ferrari told Portuguese TV station Antena 1.
Milan had the player watched as Porto beat Malaga in the Champions League last 16 stage clash, and they were quite impressed with the Belgian. In addition, the 22-year-old does fit in with the Rossoneri’s new direction of signing promising young players with a potentially good future.
However, the obstacle to the deal is Porto’s €20 million valuation of the player.
