SPECIAL: One Win Away From Champions League Football

The latest article by our Guest Poster has just arrived!

Milan has achieved the impossible and resurrected what was a disastrous season after victory over Pescara on Wednesday left them just one match away from Champions League qualification.

The idea of playing in Europe next term was an impossible dream a few months ago. In November, Milan lost 3-1 at home to Fiorentina – their sixth Serie A defeat in 12 games – and were a long way off the leading pack in Serie A.

Things looked bleak for Milan and head coach, Massimiliano Allegri’s job was very much on the line, but thanks to some inspired activity in the transfer window, the boss has turned the ship around.

Much of Milan’s improvement has come through the arrival of Italy international, Mario Balotelli, who has only failed to score in three of his 12 appearances since arriving at the San Siro from Manchester City.

It may seem a little ignorant to pin all the praise on one man but Balotelli’s 11 goals in 11 appearances proves just what a valuable asset he has become. His goals have earned Milan 17 points this season and they have not lost when he’s scored.

On Wednesday against Pescara, it took the striker just nine minutes to open the scoring and, midway through the second half, he doubled his personal tally as Milan ran out 4-0 victors.

The result means a win against Roma on Sunday secures Allegri’s men third place in Serie A and European football for next season – an achievement few Champions League betting.

Over the summer, Allegri is likely to invest in his defence and midfield to bolster Milan’s chances of winning the title from Juventus next term; Serie A betting fans will find a good price online for them to win Europe’s top club competition.
