The right signing at the wrong time?
Milan’s CEO Adriano Galliani has met Cagliari’s president Massimo Cellino to discuss about Davide Astori’s return at the San Siro, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Astori had an average season with Cagliari as the Sardinia side finished 11th.
Club director Francesco Marroccu recently ruled out a possible exit for the Italia international, but it has all fallen down as Milan seem willing to lure him. Several Italian reports claim that Galliani could offer talents Gianmario Comi and Marco Fossati as part of the deal.
The 26-year-old defender, who is currently on international duty at the Confederation Cup in Brazil, went through Milan’s youth ranks but he never managed to make a debut for the first team.
As a result, he was permanently sold to the Rossoblu in 2011.
There would have been no problems unless the Rossneri haven’t cemented a new brick in the defenders’ wall. Astori has been a target for a very long period of time, but bringing him now would be totally useless. It is mainly because the Zapata-Mexes duo is very likely to remain unchanged the following season.
In addition, Netherland’s loan returnee Urby Emanuelson is on Torino’s radar. However, he would have to accept a pay-cut so as to join the Granata. Whilst, Sevilla have reportedly made a €20 million bid for Riccardo Montolivo, but Milan turned it down.
